who am I?

Mainly defined by three kids, my wife, and a dog. Descendant of Ngāti Toa, and from Wellington. Part time (hopeless) drummer, record collector and would like to go fishing more than I do.

All of my family are self-employed. I grew up watching them talk about cash flow, staffing, sales and profitability. I founded Convex Accounting in 2011 to help people like my family, and to at the same time challenge the stereotype of the dull, cardigan-wearing accountant.

My musical guilty pleasures include De La Soul, Erroll Garner, Sammy Davis Jr and, yes, Taylor Swift (1989 is exceptional, the rest is rubbish). When I’m not at work, I’ll be spending time with my family (twin boys and a girl), playing the drums, or trying to get the kids to flip the record over so I don't need to get off the couch.

I'm born and bred locally, descendant of Ngāti Toa, grew up in Porirua, went to school in the Hutt and won't live anywhere other than Wellington.

If you’d like to catch up for a coffee feel free to get in touch at 021 752 270 or hamish@convexaccounting.co.nz.

Or, if you'd prefer the typically dull bio you'd expect:

I finished university in 2005 after completing BA and BCA, with first class honors in Accounting. Along the way I had some time in a Big-4 accounting firm, which frankly I hated (but gained some valuable insights) before joining a boutique tax advice firm.

There I completed by Chartered Accounting qualification, and provided specialist tax structuring and tax audit advice. This was primarily to other Chartered Accountants and Lawyers. Here I learnt the 'ropes' when it comes to interacting with the IRD, as well as developed a deep understanding of complex tax issues.

At this point though I realised there was more to life than tax. I was off for a stint in France teaching English and travelling. We then returned to NZ and got Convex off the ground.

He uri ahau no Ngāi Te Rangi, Whakatōhea me Tūhourangi. No nga Moutere o Tauranga Moana ahau. He wahine tu tika tu pono ki toku Ao maori.

I am a descendant of Ngāi Te Rangi, Whakatōhea and Tūhourangi tribes. I am a proud māori woman  with strong Māori values and beliefs from the Islands of Tauranga Moana.

A mother of 5 beautiful humans. Born and raised in Porirua, Wellington. Married to a star of a man always cheering me to be and do all I can.

Bossy, know-it-all, challenging - all words used to describe me in my childhood. All attributes I believe contribute to the person I am today. And words that wouldn’t be far from the mouths of my colleagues.

An accountant by day but would much rather be salsa dancing in the barrios of Cuba or Argentina. I love me a good beat and some sensual vibes. Now a days, more of place in my head then reality with all the little humans I’m doing my best to help raise. Ya girl loves a challenge!

Professionally, my experience is varied. After working my way through University I gained my base accounting knowledge here in Wellington in a mid tier public accounting practice. I went on to try my hand at Corporate Finance joining Spark first in Wellington then in Christchurch. After 6 years it was time to step back and see what else life had to offer.

Trying my hand on the other side of business while raising a young family. From managing a hospitality business, giving share trading a crack and starting a health and fitness business all part of my journey thus far. After a two year stint in Japan, 2015 bought us back to Wellington where I met Hamish Mexted (4 years into building Convex) and joined him back in the accounting game.

Becoming a Director of Convex Accounting, I bring people skills, real life problem solving and through life’s experiences I also bring resilience to our business as we look to build a community of like minded business owners changing the game and not becoming resigned to doing things the way they’ve always been done.

I am a passionate coffee consumer who loves to explore different ways of making coffee. I am currently loving a filter coffee made with my bright yellow MoccaMaster but am very excited about purchasing a nitro coffee maker so I can enjoy a nitro cold brew during the summer months.

I am a mediocre golfer, who needs to find more time to play, so if you need an excuse, I am your man.

I am also a proud rescue dog owner. My wife and I adopted a dog when living in the Carribbean and he has been with us ever since. He is well travelled and has lived in four different countries between our time in the Carribbean, Channel Islands and New Zealand.

If you’d like to catch up for a coffee (or a round of golf) feel free to get in touch at 027 248 8849 or chris@convexaccounting.co.nz

Or, if you'd prefer the typically dull bio you'd expect:

I finished university in 2005 after completing a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration, majoring in Accounting. My first accounting job was at a major international accounting firm where I gained broad business experience working in their advisory team (and completed my Chartered Accountancy qualification). I was then lucky enough to spend some time working in the Caribbean and Channel Islands.

Once back in NZ I spent some time at working for a Kiwisaver provider learning the ins and outs of the finance world before arriving at Convex in November 2020.

Let’s address the elephant in the room – my name is pronounced er-jin-nee (soft jin, not gin like the drink...)

Depending on whether I’ve helped you with an IRD problem or not, it may or may not surprise you that I’m into fighting. After work you’ll find me at my gym doing kickboxing, Muay Thai and the occasional MMA classes. I’ve also recently discovered Hot yoga (a bit of a juxtaposition initially but you’d be surprised how well the two fit together) – not sure if I can say I enjoy the hot yoga just yet but watch this space.

I started working at Convex in 2016 (I can see you doing the math, I am older than I look) and they haven’t been able to get rid of me since [Editor Note – we’d never want to!].

Fun fact: Accounting was definitely not my best subject at school. My accounting teacher was surprised to find out that I (a) took it up and (b) got a job. But with both my parents having owned their own business’s I was always very interested in how it worked in the real world (rather than a text book).

If you’d like to catch up for a coffee feel free to give me a call (04 212 4977) or eugenie@convexaccounting.co.nz.

Or, if you'd prefer the typically dull bio you'd expect:

I studied at Victoria University, completing my Bachelor of Commerce in 2016. I was hired by Convex (at the time called iif) in my last year.

Since then I’ve gone from doing the filing through to completing my Chartered Accounting qualification. Now my life revolves around fighting, accounting, and guiding my customers through business.

who am I?

I hail from the best small town in all of Aotearoa, Te Puke. I'm considered a not so silent assassin because you can hear me before you see me. This comes from being short in a family of giants (well the men anyway)... This girl needs to be heard! Engaged in 3 days, married in 3 months, no one can say I’m not decisive. I have personality for days, comebacks for all situations, and a never ending supply of wit. These soft skills make me personable to everyone which leads to a sign on my forehead that says “I care”, honest, tell me your problems because “I care”! I’m time poor because “I care”!!! I treat people as if they were related to me both in my personal and professional life. Just like whanau, I will laugh when needed, show concern when needed, guide when needed, but most importantly let you leave better than you arrived. When this time poor woman gets a chance, I am chillaxing with my husband or my fam bam which is just the ultimate.

Or, if you'd prefer the typically dull bio you'd expect:

I graduated from the University of Waikato with a Bachelor in Management Studies majoring in Accounting. I worked in small accounting firms during and then after I graduated I worked at Deloitte, then GHA and now Convex. I come from a diverse background, with multiple cultures influencing my character, which has helped me converse with a wide range of people. Everyone else has to travel to get the “cultural experience”, whereas I have it all in my own backyard.

I love working with Māori in this space and watching them grow. It’s very exciting times.

I like long walks on the beach, chasing sunsets, travelling to exotic locations and…writing about myself! But seriously though I've done a fair amount of travelling and always make it a priority to get out into the wilderness. I haven't done a lot in our own beautiful backyard, so with the travel restrictions the plan is to fix that!

When I was younger my brother shut the car door on my finger, meaning I missed a summer of baseball. I blame this for the fact I'm not currently playing for the Chicago Cubs. So the natural progression from that was to study accounting and here I am.

If you’d like to catch up for a coffee feel free to give me a call (04 212 4977) or hayden@convexaccounting.co.nz.

Or, if you'd prefer the typically dull bio you'd expect:

I graduated from Victoria University of Wellington with a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Accounting, Commercial Law and International Business. While studying I worked at an event security company, which grew into a full-time job that saw me running a team and ensuring the customer safety at some of the biggest events in New Zealand.

On paper I fit the 'typical accountant type'. Attention to detail, a love of reading and an almost unhealthy love of spreadsheets. It makes work easy, but more importantly helps to make beautiful cakes, cook delicious meals and have party planning skills second to none.

I thrive in Convex's fun and upbeat atmosphere where no one takes themselves too seriously. The only downside (so far) is being the least athletic person in an office with a points system for going for a run. On the flipside, I am the official holder of the Convex Beer Pong Championship (despite Hamish's best efforts).

If you’d like to catch up for a coffee feel free to give me a call (04 212 4977) or chelsea@convexaccounting.co.nz.

Or, if you'd prefer the typically dull bio you'd expect:

I started my working life in a chocolate factory, and quickly realised that hairnets and steel caps weren't for me (Willy Wonka was definitely false advertising). I then moved to Wellington to study at Victoria University. After trying out a few degree options, I graduated in 2018 with a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Commercial Law.

After gaining some experience at a mid-tier firm I made the move to Convex Accounting. Here the fun and supportive environment has challenged and improved my skills and given me more opportunities to work closely with clients to fully understand their needs and how we can help.

who am I?
I’ve moved back home to Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington after a good eight years in Australia and a couple in Auckland. While I miss the hinterland and beaches, I don’t miss the sunburn. I’m not built for the subtropics!
I am a devotee of café culture, appreciate an invite to any art exhibition and love spending my weekends soaking up the beautiful natural surrounds of this city (not tramping though please). I also have an unhealthy relationship with the mid-century furniture search filter on TradeMe and need someone to intervene.
While an affinity for numbers and a drive to be financially literate drew me to accounting, I’ve found that what I enjoy most is meeting people from a variety of industries, getting a window into their world and helping them make sense of the many boxes to tick with IRD.

Or, if you'd prefer the typically dull bio you'd expect:

I graduated the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Accounting and Finance. I am passionate about grassroots organisations and self-made businesses, and have been the go-to accounts person for a number of charities before joining Convex.

I joined the team at Convex Accounting in 2020 after recently finishing a Bachelor of Commerce in Dunedin. I enjoy the supportive and open culture of the team and how passionate everyone is about helping their clients.

who am I?

Despite leaving school early, I have finally found myself in the world of accounts, Xero and spreadsheets, after few career changes from hairdressing to managing a Medical Centre. After 7 years of hairdressing my husband persuaded me to try something different and suggested studying - which turned into a degree from a 1-year diploma. I then ended up becoming the practice manager of a Medical Centre whilst studying full-time just as the lockdown hit which really tested my sanity.

When I am not at work I am wining and dining with my friends, walking the tracks of Wellington and browsing Trade Me for my next addiction to my 4-legged family (how many dogs is too many?). I also help my husband run his small business, so I totally understand the stresses.

I have felt nothing but support by the team not only are they professional and approachable, but what really makes this place amazing is we share a love of food and snacks! I am extremely excited to work with you all and for you to experience the Convex way of doing accounts.

Or, if you’d prefer the typically dull bio you’d expect:

I have a degree in business management majoring in accounting, I am a fully qualified hairdresser and have a certificate in Makeup Artistry. My professional experience is in management and running a small business.

I am excited to learn the world of accounting from GST to annual returns big or small. Bring it on!

Dog lover, wannabe space explorer, and terrible speller… yup that’s me. I’m your classic young creative so I love to jump into anything that involves art and storytelling. My big passion project at the moment is writing and illustrating children’s books… I really want to be the favourite aunty lol.

My brain is full of obscure Simpsons, Spongebob, and 30 Rock references which I think are hilarious but are always met with strange and confused looks if I ever say them out loud. On the weekends can catch me trying to play guitar like John Mayer and failing miserably, wandering around Wellington, or visiting my whānau and my beautiful dog, Bonnie, back home in Porirua.

Or, if you'd prefer the typically dull bio you'd expect:

I graduated halfway through 2020 from Massey University of Wellington with a double major of Expressive Arts and Media Studies with a minor of Marketing Communication (my last semester was in lockdown… crazy stuff, man). After spending 4 years working in retail, I decided to venture out and find a ‘big kid’ job. Now, I find myself here at Convex helping with all things content and social media related.

During my studies, I rediscovered my passion for creativity and spent a lot of my free time writing scripts. In March 2021, I achieved a life-long dream of performing at BATS Theatre in a show that I wrote for the New Zealand Fringe Festival called INTROSPECTION. Hopefully, another show will be coming soon (watch this space).
